Re: Happy Pi Day!

There've been years when I celebrated Pi Day, but I forgot it yesterday, until my husband reminded me that today is the Ides of March and therefore the anniversary of Julius Caesar's assassination. Then I thought, Oh, right, so yesterday was Pi Day. I think I've been so focused on St Patrick's that ...

Re: How the Irish Celebrate St Patrick's Day

I can't do the sausage stew because my daughter won't eat pork. And I have a very bad history with potato pancakes. One year I tried to make latkes around Hannakah (sp?) and the potatoes all turned black before I could get through grating them. There must be some trick about it. I like to eat stuff ...

Re: Make Money from your Halloween Site

Oh, I'd forgotten the death count was that high. Many of those were on a highway that collapsed, I think. I remember horror stories about that.

Re: Just finished updating my computer desktop for '23

My eyes may have just missed it. I don't exactly see an active topics section, but I see a red alert beside a topic or thread response that has recently been posted. Sometimes I think I miss the red against the orange background.

Re: How the Irish Celebrate St Patrick's Day

Lol! Fireworks aren't illegal around here for a certain number of days (maybe 11?) before and after the 4th. Same thing at New Year's. Still, I prefer the civic shows, because fireworks can be dangerous. Also, I rather enjoy the communal atmosphere of the big fireworks shows. Btw, I did look up &quo...

That just sounds so scary to me, like the end of the world.

Re: What was your first Halloween costume?

Vampires are classic, and I love vampire stories, but I don't think I've ever dressed as one. You know, I mentioned up thread that the first costume I remember wearing was a witch. I recall parading around in it at school. But I don't recall Halloweens earlier than that, which is odd, because I can ...

Re: How the Irish Celebrate St Patrick's Day

My husband dislikes crowds, too, although he prefers to spend his time off at home. He doesn't even leave the house for 4th of July fireworks because the pleasure of seeing them doesn't offset the headache of leaving in the inevitable traffic jam.

Re: Make Money from your Halloween Site

Omg, that must have been terrifying. Yet your building didn't collapse? So I guess all those structural.provisions they've made out there have worked.

Re: Make Money from your Halloween Site

Where were you when it happened? At home? At work? Did you have time to process mentally what was going on before it was over? My California cousins tell me they'll take earthquakes over tornadoes any day. I don't know. Tornadoes are terrifying, and I hate them. But I can't imagine anything much mor...

Re: How the Irish Celebrate St Patrick's Day

Lol. Well, I think the guy who writes this blog would say that's fine. In fact, he says he himself is one who runs away from the crowds and prefers to take nature hikes on his day off. I gather he's not much of a drinker, either, and insists that going out and getting rip-roaring drunk is not really...

How the Irish Celebrate St Patrick's Day

I recently reread all these St Patrick's threads and found myself wondering what it would be like to be in Ireland at this time of year. I found a good article, on a blog called The Irish Road Trip, written by a man who's lived there for 35 years, and I found it interesting, so I'll try to link it h...

Re: Make Money from your Halloween Site

I remember that quake! My older son was an infant. We saw it on TV. A terrible quake. We lived in Virginia back then, the Shenandoah Valley.
