Re: Happy Pi Day!

I'm pretty sure that I would celebrate Walpurgisnacht in preference to Halloween if I lived in Australia. It's a fall holiday down there, and the Halloween spirit is autumnal.

Re: Gardening

Deer don't enter our yard, but other critters do. Some of them (Squirrels? Rabbits? Possums? Raccoons?) always eat any squash or pumpkin blossoms in the night.

Re: Happy Pi Day!

Oh, I have Walpurgisnacht on my radar! Not that I do anything about it, but I do make a mental note.

Re: Catching up

Well, as I've said, my maternal grandfather was born in 1875, and that's pretty mind-blowing for me, too, even though I know I'm older than you. But in the South, we still think about Reconstruction (at least, those of us with deep roots do), and that means my grandfather was born before it ended. T...

Re: Gardening

Good luck with your gardening, Mau! I have a few tomato seedlings I need to plant this week. I have some beefsteak and some cherry tomatoes.

Wow, she started a lemon tree from seed? Like, from a grocery store lemon? I wonder if they stay true to type. What a neat gift, though!

Re: Happy Pi Day!

My experience with summer projects is that you really have to take the bull by the horns, plan them out, use the days. Because summer gets by so fast!

Re: Catching up

I didn't even know all my grandparents. Both my grandfathers died before I was born. But I did know my grandmothers. My own mother had only one living grandparent, her mother's mother, and that woman died when Mama was three.

Re: Promoting my book: Sky Kingdom

My daughter has one novel she wrote in high school and early college, then completely revised after college. So far she has not sought to publish it. But most of her writing is plays (theater major), and publication for that means mounting the plays. She's gone so far as to have a table reading for ...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?

My husband is all into the air fryer now. We haven't had anything deep fried in longer than I can count. I guess it's better for our health, but not for our taste buds.

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?

I don't think I've ever bought peanut oil, though I believe I've heard it's good for cooking at high temps. Certainly I like peanuts.

My daughter likes hers with butter and cinnamon, but I bet she'd like a good olive oil, too.

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?

Yes, in her adulthood my daughter, who resembles her aunt, seems to have been developing dietary sensitivities similar to those of her aunt. When we have baked potatoes, she eats sweet potatoes. She still eats cheese, but she has to watch out about eggs and chicken. Now, both she and her aunt are fi...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?

Lol. Well, I hope it doesn't get as bad as that. Around here, I think of ragweed as an autumnal thing. Spring pollens for us are trees and flowers. Fall pollens are grasses and weeds. Either one can be really tough, but in recent years I think the spring allergies have been worse. My husband's siste...

Re: Are y'all ready for Easter?

Aww, through the internet, Andy? I attended choir practice at church tonight for the first time since Easter. There were only five of us who showed up, out of thirteen. Everybody else, including my husband, was out sick. Allergies are brutal in April around here, and allergies set you up for respira...
