working on this year's yard haunt

Post by JonH » Sun Sep 28, 2014 11:08 am

working on our annual front yard decor since yesterday. The fuzzy pic on the top tells me that the phone didn't like the too-dark setting for a photo :)
you also can't tell from the still shot the strobe lights or the working animatronic cemetery ghoul on the porch (and the back section of the orange lights "fence" is out and needs to be replaced today)

I was thinking you could put detergent on the cobwebs to make them glow!

I just can't wait until next Halloween,
'Cause I've got some new ideas
that will really make them scream!
And, by God, I'm really gonna give it all my might!

I've never heard of the detergent thing, sounds like a good idea though!

thanks! Here's a better shot from dusk last night with everything finished and on & working, but light enough to still see what the heck is going on :)
This is what will be greeting our annual 200-250 trick r treaters next month, we'll be sitting around the fire pit on the drive way to the left, handing out about a shopping cart full of candy.

Oh, very nice!

Some of our neighbors do as you do and sit around a brazier near their fairly elaborate yard haunt. I generally sit behind a tree, dressed as a witch or a gypsy, and surprise the TOTers. But I also put my husband on duty for about thirty minutes so I can walk the neighborhood and see what everyone else is doing.

ha, fun! yeah, the sit-in-the-driveway-around-the-fire thing is a big (and fun) tradition around here. the only bad thing is that it eliminates the traditional walking up to the door and ringing the bell that was such a big part of the nervousness of TOTing that I remember as a kid. Now its, "walk up to the big group of people eating White Castles and drinking beer around the fire with the giant pumpkin bowl full of candy!"

Well, the people I know who do it decorate their yards pretty elaborately. In fact, elaborate yard haunts are rather the thing in this neighborhood. About a block and a half down the street, you turn the corner and find a sort of Halloween block party. It is such a big deal that police have come out to direct traffic the last few years. Our street gets the spill-over from that.

sounds awesome! yeah, that's how our neighborhood is, just with much less elaborate decor than what you're talking about. Our street is the main circle (appx. 1 full mile all the way around) in the subdivision, and its basically a big Halloween block party, people on their driveways with the firepits, 200+ kids all night, etc. Its such a big deal, that we now have about 15-20 friends and family that come over to our place to experience it each year.
