Excellent book, train wreck of a movie.
Anyone seen Bell, Book & Candle? Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart. I'm positive that it is where the TV folks came up with the idea for Bewitched.

Bell Book and Candle was excellent! Thanks for reminding me about that one!
My roomie has alot of the old Bewitched shows on DVD. We sit around and watch those a lot.

If you don't buy a copy after renting it I would fall over dead. It's one of both Novak and Stewart's best. I've heard of Bell, Book and Candle, but I've never seen it. I should rent it, too. Wasn't it a stage play before it was a movie?
I didn't know it had a theme similar to Bewitched, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if such a play/movie hadn't given someone the idea for a TV show like that. Bewitched was a great favorite of mine when I was a child. I am old enough to have seen it first-run when I was in grade school. The trading-Darrins part of it was strange, not least because, in those days, audiences weren't informed why stuff like that happened. Today, the tabloid press and infotainment shows would be all over something like that. But back in the '60s, TV was still relatively new, and it was definitely considered a second-class medium, after movies. The supermarket tabloids in those days were all about movie people--about Liz Taylor's scandalous affair with Richard Burton, etc. No one back then thought anybody cared about TV stars. I was in my 30s before I learned that the original Darrin had left the show due to serious health problems, and that it was his own decision--no one forced him out.
