Holiday baking

Post by Pumpkin56 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 10:43 am

Anyone doing any baking for the holidays? I found these neat little Christmas buckets at Target for $1.50 that are perfect for putting treats in. I got some for the people in my department at work and filled them with cookies, peppermint brownies, and mini gingerbread loaves. So simple and cheap. Last year I bought everyone a cannister of hot cocoa from Godiva-- this was much easier on my bank account! :)

I like to bake, but I hate cooking

Actually, we just got our oven working. It's never worked since I've been here. Old O'Keefe and Merritt gas stove. My roommate has been bemoaning the fact that she can't do any baking so we finally popped and coughed up the dough (get it? : ) to have the thing fixed. The repairman said the thermostat seems a bit off so we may have to do some practicing before doing any major holiday cooking. Naturally, I've been using that to my advantage and have had the roomie baking cookies pretty much round the clock. Playing on her fears of burning the holiday turbaconducken.

I don't know. I am not a major baker. Once in a while when I get a taste for something home bakce, I might whip up a batch of Duncan Heins brownies or something, but on Christmas I usualy get some great batch of Christmas cookies as a gift from my sister in-law.

Sometimes I love to bake something to eat anything. My aunt always loves to bake the cakes all the time for holidays.

This may sound wierd, but some times I'll pick up a tube of chocolate chip cookid dough (usualy the Pollsbury) and eat it raw. Yes, really, I LOVE raw cookie dough. I only indulge in that "treat" during Christmas Vacation, though. I don't want to be 380 pounds again.

Mike you were 380 pounds before?

That is enough weight for 2 full sized men. One thing I never understand about America is all the overweight. You need to eat fresh foods and fruits and vegetables and not the stuff they give you at McDonald and other fast foods. I hope you are healthy weight now Mike it would be a shame to die young do to overweight. :?

Chang, I had to have a Gastric Bypass, because I was so obease. I actualy weiged 387, not 380. I am down from that to 196, and I've been fluctuating between 194 and 198. I am a lot healthier then I was, but I still have to be very caerful about not over doing it. A lot of people had G I surgery, and some of them actualy gained back all the weight, so I do, like you advised, have to incorporate more fresh veggies in my diet. The doctor wants me to eat more protien, however. Fish and fowl are the ones he would prefer I eat.

That is great you weer able to go back to normal size and stay that way. It is only with discipline that you survive because you would have been killed by the weight for sure if you kept it. Good job Mike and Merry Christmas. :!:

Thanks, Chang, and Merry Christmas to you, too. Losing the weight was the hardest fight I was ever in. Tougher then quitting smoking, tougher then quitting drinking, tougher then everything I ever had to struggle with. I actualy almost died when I took the wrong type of medication to treat my Gout. I had to had numerous unites of blood and was in the hospital for a week, stayed with my brother for about 3 days, started to bleed again, and was in the hospital for anoter week, and finaly was back to work on about the 30th of Sept after being out for almost an entire month.

Pumpkin_man,
I weight 190 pounds so I should have to lose my weigh bezause I am smoker, drinker and sometimes heavy eater. I should have to stay back to my normal weigh, like 150 pounds.
