Need ideas's for 2 Halloween Parties? HELP!!!

Post by witchy » Thu Sep 03, 2009 1:25 pm

Hello,
I need ideas for 2 Halloween Parties this year. One is for a group of 13 year olds & one is for Adults. Two years ago I did a Pirate of the Caribbean Halloween party, 2 years before that it was Harry Potter. This year I don't have a clue of what kind of theme to go with, any ideas would be great!!!
Thanks, witchy

what i'm doing this year is having a graveyard themed party and having everyone dress up as zombies :) it should look really good on camera and be a lot of fun as well :)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I'm no efficionado of what 'teeny bopers' like, but for the adult party, I would go with a Halloween Fonfire if you have the space for it. That's what I'm going to do.

I have a Halloween party every year. This will be my 10th year!!!
I have 3 kids 10, 13 & 18.
We have a bonfire/ hay ride/ haunted barn party every year.
Go with classic!!! Kids love that. I change things up a bit each year. I add some new and sometimes scary props and have family and friends ( Dad's get a kick out of it!) dress up in costumes that I have or some that they have and hang out in the woods and barn.
Costumes are always encouraged but not demanded since it is outside.
This year I am having a pumpkin carving contest. I am asking everyone to bring a carved or decorated Jack. I will have lights for each and have a voting box set up. Guests will vote. I will have prizes for the winners. Fun and I won't have to carve all the decorations.
We usually have between 150 and 200 people.

I did go to an adult only party once. The theme was famous couples. It was so funny to see who picked who. Bill and Monica. Romeo and Juliet. Bert and Ernie. The Spartan cheerleaders.
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright,

Hi shanda ,
I want to come to your party, it sounds awesome!!!! My house & Yard are only ave. size, so I can not do a bonfire, even though I love the idea. Maybe I can do a Pumpkin carving contest. Two years ago I had the kids paint 3 inch pumpkins & had a contest with those, that was really cute.

Hi Mike,
Like I said my yard is to small to have a bonfire, but I truly loved the idea!!! I wish just for Halloween, I had a yard large enough for a bonfire.( I hate to cut grass)

Thanks everyone for the ideas, keep them rolling in I need all the help I can get, Witchy

with the bon fire thing you could also look into doing a 16th century type theme you know... old costumes and witches.. you could make creepy props the limbs, sticks, and twine ect ect
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Oh yes! If you have kids comming, Why not a Haunted Mansion theme? You could encourage old early century style clothing, or ghost like costumes.
Cover all the unused furnishings with white cloth, drape everything with spider webs. Get some of those black candleabra things. You can find paper/cardboard ones at party stores.
Print some old scary looking b/w photographs from online, frame and hang.
Dim the lights, use black lighting or candle light ( real or battery).
Play some creepy organ music or the Haunted Mansion movie for kids.

Wow, I think I have just redecorated my own house for Halloween!!
I love this site! It gets my own creative juices flowing!!!

I always thought it would be nice to do a Victorian themed party. We've done the scary Hallowe'en with spooky music to death. It would be fun to go back to the days of yore.

for a victorian or mansion party i would recommend lots of candlesticks.but be careful. we usually NEVER use actual candle flames for safety reasons, but you can buy flicker tea lights that mimic candlelight. if you could afford it, buy lots of red velvet, or just use cheap red plastic table cloths.( we have a store here called the "dollar tree" where everything is a dollar) i use them for all sorts of things like curtains and witch clothing, ghosts etc. i bought a queen costume at wal-mart last year for about $20, you could dress that up with a hand held fan and a "ladies" hat from that era. for a man, those old timey glasses would make a statement or one of those eye lenses that hang from a chain and are held in with your eye muscles...i cant think of the name......monocle???? dress up your dining room table with a candlelabra, ive seen them for about $15 and you could always re-use it next year.
did someone mention covering your living room furniture with white cloths? i did that one year with a set of sheets. red light bulbs in your lamps would be cool too.

another cool idea i thought of, at the halloween stores they have what they call scene setters, they are plastic panels that you can tape up, i have a set that look like an old timey bookcase and a fireplace and mirror... the bookcase has books with scary names and bottles of poisons, that would look good in a mansion theme. they only cost about $5 too.
another set i have are large pictures in frames, one is the old time farmer and wife only they have scary eyes....perfect for a mansion theme..

I love the idea's with the sheets over the furniture & the red lights, I aslo have some spray on spiderwebs that will look awesome too. I do have a fireplace & I alway put candles all over it & put a pumkin wreath over the mantle. I think this year I will invest in some vampire people head busts to put on their too. Thanks again!!
