I posted this elsewhere today as well and it isn't for everyone but if you like 80s alternative: Everyday is Like Halloween by Ministry is a favorite of mine.

Oingo Boingo mentioned earlier is a favorite as well

"Dance McCabre," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Tocata & Fuge in D Minor' are three songs that come to mind when I think of Halloween or scary music.

Alright, I've got a small list here of music and I need to add some stuff.
I'm looking for 80's music, metal, or disco. Pretty much anything no one will take seriously. Here's what I've got so far.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space - The Dickies
The Night - Disturbed
Avoid the Light - Pantera
Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band
Nymphetamine - Cradle of Filth
Somebody's Watchin'g Me - Rockwell
Can't Touch This - MC Hammer (had to)
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground (again, had to)
Megadeth - Go to Hell
Sun Doesn't Rise - Mushroomhead
Medicine Man - Pantera
Progenies of The Great Apolcalypse - Dimmu Borgir
Maaaaybe the Ghostbusters theme song.

And no... please no Thriller. I'm sick of that song.
"He didn't just eat their bodies, he ate their souls."

Came across this song a while back, but now that I think about it, it's a pretty good Halloween song especially with the music video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyPG0Ohl8g8
Kinda reminds me of Iron Maiden.
"He didn't just eat their bodies, he ate their souls."

There is a lot of traditional scary music out there, but I recently rediscoverd a less traditional but creepy sounding CD that I bought way back in 1985. It's the music sound track to the movie "Escape from New York." That music really gives you a very creepy sense of an abandoned city, now a jail.

I'm gonna look that up. If it's as creepy as you suggest, that would probably work well in certain types of haunts.

You might want to check out the movie if you can find it. It should be on Netflix. It's not a typical Halloween story, but does have some creepy sounding music in it. Particularly the opening theme, but it doesnt give you the sense of haunted type forboding, but rather, a futuristic nightmare type of forboding. The basic premise of the Escape from New York story is that the entire island of Manhattan for some reason or another is walled in and transformed into a prison. Some one who committs a serious crime is basicaly dropped in there to fend for him or her self. You see all the familiar land marks one would expect to see in New York City, only it's over run by America's worst criminals. It's a great story, all though very dated. It came out in the early 80s, and the story takes place in the 90s, so it's not really a futuristic story so much any more. The music, as I said before, is very creepy.

When you mentioned that the music kind of gives a sense of abandonment, it kind of reminded me of 28 Days Later at the beginning when Jim leaves the hospital and is wandering around London just completely bewildered by how desolate it is. The music that plays in that scene is by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, I believe. I want to say the song is called East Hastings, but it's been quite a long time since I listened to it, so my memory is a bit fuzzy...
