For the record, I do not condone the defacing of any grave... if you want to wish on Laveau's tomb, just place your hand on it and wish. (Oh, and NOLA stands for New Orleans, Louisiana)

Below: Marie Laveau's tomb-- she is/was the VooDoo Queen of New Orleans.

Five points to whoever can guess which movie star is going to be interred in this tomb in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1!!

.... Give up?

Nicholas Cage. No joke. The actor bought two plots and had this pyramid structure built to house his remains. Cage also owned the infamously haunted LaLaurie House (I have pics, but not uploaded at this time) until 2009, when he lost the property after some financial difficulties.

Homer Plessy from the supreme court case Plessy vs Ferguson-- which ruled that "Separate but equal" was okay-- is buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 as well. He's buried near Judge Ferguson, who regretted having to rule as he did on that case. Lucky for the judge, the decision was later overruled.

... and here are a couple images from St. Louis Cemetery No. 3:

Neat pictures, Jadewik! Thanks for sharing.

I didn't know that Nic Cage had a thing for NOLA.

Did that grave yard you posted get a flood when New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina?

The water in the French Quarter was, I heard, only about a foot deep-- I guess it was built on the "high ground". Most of the flooding was in the 9th ward-- quite a ways away.

I do have pictures of a tomb in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 that had the front of the tomb blow off during the hurricane force winds... but I did not post it.

That's the thing--the earliest settlers anywhere always claim the highest, most desirable ground. You can generally assume that the oldest part of any city is built in the most desirable location.

Our niece's college (Loyola, across the street from Tulane, I believe) is built in an area that didn't really flood. The students still had to evacuate, but their school wasn't particularly damaged. The 9th Ward, which flooded so horrifically, was one of the poorest areas, I think.

I never like to see the suffering but when it floods like that I can not look away. The survivors of the floods should have new appreciate for life.

Nope! Chances are I'd wish for something and it'd come out all Monkey's Paw on me-- a twisted version of what I really wanted.

Though, our guide did say she knows that the tomb and wish thing works... she was with a group once and a couple guys wished for the A-Team to come back. Then, lo and behold, there was an A-Team movie.

Like ouija boards, voodoo is something best to be avoided. It is a form of black magic from what I've read about it.

The cemeteries here in New Orleans are very interesting and filled with history.

The Metairie Cemetery is very interesting. It used to be a race track!

This is the tomb Of Isaac Delgado and his family. He was a wealthy sugar planter and philantropist.

I have a ladyfriend who is taking over a wlaking tour group and I am thinking about being a tourguide for the cemeteries.
