Hurray! I'm not jobless anymore!
I got a call today and I start a new job at a local conveniant store/gas station! Ok...so it's not much...it's part time minimum wage...but since I'm in college right now that's all I need. Not to mention I'm no longer in the Unemployed group and won't have to worry about losing my Unemployment.
I start Tuesday morning at 7:30 AM...I'm already a little nervous but I've had a lot of jobs in the past already so I'm just going to go in there, keep my nose clean and give it my all.
I also get Sundays off Guarenteed because the store's closed on Sundays.
Now my other concern is getting a new car...and hopefully my new employer will give me Summer fest weekend off. And if I have to work Halloween that'll be a bummer...but I'll still find a way to celebrate somehow. Even if it's just buying a bag of candy, watching a horror movie and ordering a pizza.

This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

That great news!!!
Anyone who lands a job in this day and age is very lucky.
Give it your all because, as the saying goes, 'any job worth doing, is worth going well.'

Hey Andy, I thought you were not around on the weekends!

I couldn't help it. The weather today is cloudy, cold and damp...Rising Dead Man wrote:Hey Andy, I thought you were not around on the weekends!

Re: Hurray! I'm not jobless anymore!
Thanks for the congrats guys. I'll do the best I can there and try not to get too nervous on the first day.
I plan to save up toward a car and the possibility of my own apartment. Depends on the kind of hours I get though and I'm not going to expect too much right yet.
Right now the car is more important than my own place because I need a car to get to work and school. My car runs now, but darn that evap system for acting up and making the check engine light go on!
However, I'm in a pretty good mood right now and looking forward to this new job. Now maybe I won't be so bored over the summer.

When you shop for a car, make sure you take some one with you who's knowledgable. Dealers are known for shafting their customers, especialy on used cars. My brother was shopping for a car once. The odomete read 15 thousena miles. We though that was great. The dealer even tried to jack up the price, and when we went to carfax, we found out that the odometer had in fact been 'around the horn" or on other words went all the way upt o 100 thousand miles and started counting all over again, so the car had 115 thousand miles onit.
Test drive everything you look at before you buy. Listen for grinding noises in the transmission, check the breaks, check all the lights, and stearing. Take it for a good 10 minute drive at high way speed. If the car starts to shimmy or rattle, it's probably a beater.
If you're plan on buying yourself a brand new car, do a througho and complete Internet check of prices. The ecconomy is bad, you should get a fabulous deal on any new car out there.
Patience is a virtue. Don't be too anxious. Just take your time, and find the right car for you that will give you good dependable service.

Re: Hurray! I'm not jobless anymore!
Thanks for the congrats guys.
Work has been absolutely exhausting! I'm on my feet pretty much all day with only a 15 minute break for lunch. That's the shortest I've ever had for a lunch break! Usually it's at least half an hour for a 6 hour or more shift. Plus there's a ton of stuff to learn, I've never worked in a conveniant store/gas station before!
I worked at a Dollar General...and man did that job stink. It started out good of course, then after a few months I started getting aggitated at it.
Well, I was determined to give it my all, and that's what I'm attempting to do. I'm showing up on time, early enough to count my drawer and the petty cash before clocking in.
Evidently it's encouraged to wear a costume on Halloween...yeah I asked about it.
Man my legs are just sore! I'm not used to being on my feet all day. That's what I get for being lazy and overweight!
But I got to come home to some great news...I got a letter in the mail saying I made the President's list at my college! Woo hoo!

Re: Hurray! I'm not jobless anymore!
I suggest trying out a pair of Crocs.
I know I know, they're as ugly as sin, but they are also as comfortable as they are ugly.
I wear mine every single day (outside of the office of course, but also on casual Fridays) and I can walk, shop, garden, cook, whatever, and never-ever do my feet hurt or my back.
They come in a lot of different styles now and I swear to you, you will love them after the very first day.
Trust me on this one.

Never heard of them actually, but according to our store's policy the employees can't wear open toed shoes, I don't know if they are open toed or not.
Are you talking about those "old men" shoes?
