Wayyy too many people living for wayyy too long!
I like the idea of living a really long life, but I don't want to be sucking resources.
Especially if I haven't got all my mental faculties.

For me, it's not about trying to live forever. It's about not spending the years I am here living like this:

i want to live forever!!! and soak up as much as i can
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Gin, or vodka?
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Anyone familiar with Swift's Struldbruggs (Gulliver's Travels, Book 3)? They embody the horror of eternal life.

I didn't follow that link, but I don't believe it, anyway. People may be able to extend their lives, but we won't be able to live forever. Also, I recall my biology prof years ago, who said that without death, there would be no birth, either. Imagine a planet full of thousand-year-old people and no babies, no children. Yuck.

Speaking of traditions, one of my favorites is the Angel Tree/Angel Gift. Now, that was new to me back in the early '90s, when I was still in my 30s. So that's a tradition that has been introduced into my life in my adulthood. But to me, it has become the most "Christmassy" part of Christmas. It seems to me to embody what Christmas is supposed to be about. And, yes, I'm sure it also demonstrates to me that it is indeed more blessed to give than to receive. I have often celebrated Christmas under straitened circumstances, but I have never, so far, been unable to give at least one of these anonymous presents. So I have been one of the fortunate ones.

Guys, can we get back on the topic of tradition? I actually enjoy this topic, and I think we should start a new topic if we want to discuss living forever.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

Thanks for that, Mac! It has been forever since I've seen Fiddler. :)
