A Promise From Those With Bones

Post by adrian » Wed Nov 04, 2009 1:17 pm

this is something i wrote about the early tradions of trick or treating.. when christianity began to prosper and began to merge its tradions in with the celtics and the druids... i hope you enjoy

to the west goes the light
Like we do, to its sleep
Though tonight casts a great spell
Like charm we lust to keep

All the while you rest
With spirit bread on the the step
Good fortune come quietly
When good promises are kept

dances of maggots, moans
Lumber or 2 and stitches
A white sheet to greet the ones with bones
These are dead men's wishes

For tonight is black, yes,
Blacker though than before
Tuck in tight and close hazy eyes
And have your cakes at the door

good fortune and memory
Lost in 6 foot lonely ditches
no life is great without the promises of old
To give a dead man his riches.
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Oh I love this one! Well done!

I'm really into the old Druidic/Celtic beginnings of it, and how it all merged into one entity.
My grandmother being from Ireland, really started the seed germinating in my mind with all her stories.
Her mother always left food at the door and out in the woods for the spirits, and she was very Christian.
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, and I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep. Did you hear me butterfly? Miles to go before you sleep."
