book from the 70's on set in colonial new england on Hallo

Post by sidioussith » Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:49 pm

hi i ve been searching for the title of a book i had as a kid.it was a story about two children in the new England during the puritan times they assumed their neighbor was a witch and carved a jack o lantern to look like the devils head.the story also dealt with an Indian chief named king Philip who was beheaded .the book had an illustration of the severed head on a pike.
it also featured a cover illustration of the two children a witch ,the jack o lantern and
i believe a cow.
i know this all sounds like a jumbled mess and i apologize for the bad writing (my 18 month old is trying to hi jack my laptop). but i have been wracking my brain for two years over this any help would be greatly appreciated
