Tailypo - And other kid stuff.

Post by Ciuin » Tue Aug 03, 2010 9:14 am

When I was little my kindergarten teacher read this story to us after lunch for our Halloween party and she ignited my love of the holiday. It's not actually a Halloween story but it always gets me in the season.

Any scary children's books/stories you love?

Oh WOW!! I haven't thought about that book for twenty years!!! I had that when I was little, and my mother used to read it to my brothers and me all the time!! The bit at the end when there's nothing left of the house but the chimney...wow! Thanks for the link... I've got to get a copy.

Paul Galdone... We also had a book called The Monster and the Tailor about a tailor who had to stitch a pair of trousers in a graveyard, while a giant monster crawled out of the ground. Did you have that one?

No but I read it :) I spent a lot of time as a kid in the library looking up halloween and ghost story books.

So did I, but I was always more into monsters than ghosts, especially the Daniel Cohen books (he wrote a good bit on both). One of my earliest conscious memories was checking a book about the Loch Ness monster out of the library; a few years back, I bought a copy of the same book off of ebay.

You had me at 'Halloween'!

It's good to know that there are others such as myself out there, y'all complete me!
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

Scary Stories - to Tell in the Dark

I think I actually stole some pages from this book. (Literally, I tore them out and hid them in my backpack, then stuffed the book in the religious non-fiction) I liked it for the art as much as the stories.

Young Oxford Book of Nasty Endings was another one I really liked.

Although I was 16 and not actually a 'kid' when I picked it up in England, I really liked it.

He pretty much wears it on his sleeve...as dos Spooky and his Star Wars stuff but I think we are all pretty much Halloween nerds...my favorite book as a kid was a ghost story called "Georgie" and I read it to my kids now.

I see no evidence of that.

Yeah...I have to admit I got a huge chuckle out of that too...I know Listeningeyes was being sincere in what she said and meant it in a good way but no one had ever told me I looked like a psycho before...hilarious
