Decorating for Patriotic Holidays

Post by sueluvshalloween » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:12 am

Does anyone decorate for patriotic holidays? I started a with a couple of things outside my house. Last year I bought a few things to put around in my foyer and living room. I intend on building up my collection, although I probably won't have as much stuff as I have for Halloween and Christmas, which I have a ton of stuff for those holidays. I want to start putting the patriotic items up mid-May and leave them up until right after Labor Day, which is when I start my fall decorating.

Oh heck yea.

I put out my Betsy Ross 13 star flag on memorial day and take it down on labor day.

On the 4TH I put bunting on the deck rail and a bunch of red white and blue decorations all over the house.

I'll be flying the flag on the 4th before I leave for my brothers place, but he allways puts up flags and other patriotic decorations. I usualy provide the "party favors" for our 4th of July celebration.

Donate it to a local scout troop or fire department, and they will dispose of it properly.

This is where I bought my Betsy Ross, and the standard ones for the office flag pole.

All I have right now are a few little mini flags that I like to put out. I like decorating for all holidays though and seeing what people do with their Memorial Day and 4th of July decor.

Tee shirts on the other hand, I do have a few flag tee shirts and I like to dress up in red white and blue on Memorial day and 4th of July.

I have patriotic door hangers for front and side door. Otherwise I don't do a lot. The 4th for me is more of an active holiday--swimming, grilling, watching fireworks.

Same here Murf, but sometimes it's tempting to get a few red white and blue themed decorations to look really patriotic. I especially love the fireworks and being able to light them myself. It makes it so much more fun and I feel like I'm actually part of the show instead of just watching them. Although my old town in New York did put on a pretty good show during the summerfest for a small town.

Swimming also happened to be my favorite sport growing up; and I'd always be disappointed if we'd go to a park and there'd be no swimming pool or if we couldn't swim in the lake or the creek. I remember going to this one park during the summer that they blocked off the river and let it fill up to go swimming in. I haven't been swimming in that park in ages but we did go for a walk in the hiking trail the last time we visited New York. I think the only way to convince me to get out of the pool was to get me to eat my lunch! Either that or we'd eat first and have to wait 30 minutes before going in. In fact I'm looking forward to going swimming this year. Of course, I love grilling out too. I want to try and get more involved with the out doors this summer, and I am starting out with my flower garden and bird feeders. Trouble is we've been having so much rain I think the rivers will sweep me away if I go in there. Got me a nice pair of swimming shoes though for a buck at walmart. It's fun though. I can't wait for the summer bbqs, swimming and overall outdoor fun! We already got a nice porch swing for our porch so we can sit out side and relax.

Summer officially begins now since I'm done with college for the semester. So when I'm not working at my job, I'm planning to enjoy the season. :)
