Walpurgisnacht!!

Post by Andybev01 » Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:19 pm

Can it be that, two weeks from tomorrow, we will have reached the half-way point to/from halloween?!

Can I get an amen?!!
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

I'm very sure this Covid 19 crises will be over long before October, BUT it it isn't, I am going to set up my projector and a screen on my drive way, and the neighbors can watch old Universal Monster classics from a distance and still get into the spirit.

Mike, that's a great idea.

I might even do that anyway. If the crises is actually over, I'll entertain the ToTers with some old images of Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolf Man. I also have a couple of silent era classic horror movies as well. "Nosferatu" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

Brilliant idea! I have most of those movies, too. I don't think I have the Hunchback, though.

I got "The Hunchback" in a movie collection on DVD that I found at Walmart about 6 years ago. Come to think of it, I also have the silent era version of "Phantom of the Opera," which has an awesome sound track. That film is worth screening just for that music!

Now it's only 2 more days if you are referring to May 1st.

So, this thursday is the calendar opposite of Halloween.

Good point. We are half way to Halloween. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's also Fall, so it's just like Halloween down there. It's also pretty cold and rainy here in my neck of the woods, very much what late October is like. Last Halloween we actually had a blizzard.
ToTers were riding on sleds tied behind golf carts. I had quite a few, despite the snow.

If I lived in Australia, I would be tempted to make Walpurgisnacht my Halloween. I just don't think Halloween works as a springtime festival.

The Australians who lived there all their lives are probably use to Halloween being a Spring festival, and would be unable to get use to the idea of it being a Fall festival. They're also use to Christmas and New Years being Summer time holidays, complete with pool parties, trips to the beach, barbecues and outdoor activities of all varieties. We're use to Halloween in the Fall, and Christmas and New Years in the Winter because of where we live. If I were to move down to Australia for what ever reason, I would be hard pressed to get use to that. I would also be hard pressed to see snow falling in July, which is when my birthday is.

And yes. We are only 6 months away from our favorite day of the year. Have a great one.
