Yummy Halloween cake

Post by Pumpkin56 » Mon Sep 12, 2011 5:26 pm

In case anyone hasn't already seen this, here's a recipe for a great Halloween cake. I cannot cook to save my life, but for some reason I can handle cakes :) Here's the link:

http://bakingdom.com/2010/10/a-fun-fest ... -cake.html

I have tried this and I can honestly tell you that it is very good. It is time consuming though, but well worth it. The recipe actually makes a really big cake mix so if you attempt it, you will need a pretty sizable bowl once you put everything together to mix it up. My tip: if you want the chocolate layers to have more of a chocolate taste to them, add two bars of Godiva (or any other brand) dark chocolate. To me, to leave the recipe as is, you don't really taste the chocolate much at all. Adding some dark chocolate to the mix helps quite a bit. And to get that really dark color, add black food coloring. Have fun!

Well the inside did haha but unfortunately, I didn't go to any great lengths on the outside presentation. The woman who did the cake in the pictures has some mad decorating skills!

That's a great-looking cake! I'm sure whoever did that, had a paper cut out to make the filigree work. I wanna try it! :D

Oh wait! You should buy some tiny little coffins and bake them inside the cake (similar to King cake)! Everyone who gets a piece can dig up a body!!

I wasn't going for anything majorly fancy. I was thinking of a sponge cake covered in chocolate & then make tombstones & ghosts out of icing. For a tree I would just stick a real good looking twig in it!

Someone posted a link with some tips in it in another thread.

I'd like to find some tiny zombies to bake into the coffins. However, if my 2 year old niece found that in her brownie, she probably drop it and run away screaming. I told her that if she ever meets a zombie, that is the correct response...she took me seriously
