I've been reading this morning about Valentine's customs around the world. Apparently in Estonia it is more of a friendship day. I like that idea. Happy Valentine's Day to my fellow haunters!

Happy Valentines Day, Murf. I celebrated by doing and mailing out my tax forms. I am going to top off the evening with "Be My Valentine Charlie Brown" and a loud record after words.

 Well, at least the evening sounds like fun!

We just had a special meal at home. My husband broiled ribeyes, steamed green beans and Brussels sprouts (separately, because we don't all eat them), and made a pasta called casio e pepi (I think that's how you spell it, my daughter's request). I made a chocolate chess pie with raspberries for dessert.

That sounds yummy. I love a good rib eye steak. Some times I'll do a whole rib eye roast. My mom use to bake a hear shaped layer cake every Valentines day.

My mother used to do that, too!

When I was a kid, Valentines Day was a great way to break up the winder doldrums. We would all hand out little Valentine Cards at school. In the lower grades, the teacher wouldn't assign any homework on Valentines Day. We would then go home, have a nice dinner and the heart shaped cake, then "Be My Valentine Charlie Brown" would be on tv around 7 pm or so. We would also distribute Valentine Cards to the various houses of our friends houses and they would do likewise. As I got older it sort of lost it's appeal for the most part. I still like to watch Charlie Brown, though and my oldest niece sends me a Valentine card every year, and I send her one. Hey, who knows??? Maybe I'll get into a 'later in life' romance with a lady, and then I can take her out to dinner and a movie or something.

All things are possible, Mike.

I like the idea of keeping Valentine's Day as a day of affection, not necessarily romantic affection, although that's fine, too, for couples who enjoy it.

Like I said, Valentines day was more a friendship day for me when I was a kid. When I was dating, it had a greator significance then it does today.
