caretaker

Post by Spookymufu » Sun Dec 20, 2009 6:43 pm

hey ya'll, I started working on a grave yard caretaker. My plan is to have a life size caretaker in my yard next year looking over my graveyard.

here is what it started out as.......

then it progressed to this, tape and newspaper to form the base.

I have started adding the Creative Paperclay tonight

I have never done anything like this before so please excuse the not very good aspect of it so far. I will need to go back over it in some areas to fix parts.

Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

got this far on the caretaker, the clay is cracking due to drying out when I am applying it to the bust, so I'll need to add more water to the surface as I go

If you need help I hear that Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon has some time to kill these days.

.
Better lock your doors Mac! I can see Spooky skulking around the neighborhood, looking for an
open door so he can sneak in and steal somebody's eyes.

You know...it's comments like these that make me happy to be around here with y'all.

Say that out loud at a church social and be prepared for odd looks and whispers.

How does that paperclay handle? I'm thinking of using some to make a Cartoon Head mask for my brother for his birthday... Does it dry flexible, or sturdy? Can you smooth it out? Does it shrink when it dries? How long can you work with it before it dries out?

no it isnt flexible when dry, very ridgid like plaster. yes you can smooth it out, even sand it if needed. You can work with it for a long time and you can keep wetting it to keep it moist while you work with it but, it isnt like regular sculpting clay like you would have a large chunk and sculpt it. It's more to cover a form as a final "skin" kind of thing
