Creative Ways to Light a Jack O'Lantern

I just stick with a traditional candle tealight to light mine. I buy the ones that burn for 9 hours.

The one downside to the artificial pumpkins is that I have to use battery operated lights. If I use a candle, I'll torch the pumpkin (and probably my house too). Hey does anyone know how to set a pumpkin on fire like Sam did in Trick r Treat when he went to visit Mr. Creeg? I'd work with a real pumpkin if I could do that...

I lit my own all of JOLs from 5:30 pm till late midnite when the candle is gone!

I light mine when it gets dark on Halloween night, not exactly sure what time that will be now. Certainly by 6 pm, even with daylight savings. I would love to leave them lit until midnight, but on a school night--as it will be this year--I'll probably have to blow them out when we go to bed, around 10:30 or 11:00. Of course, the battery-powered ones can stay on.

Yeah the battery operated ones can stay on...as long as I can find a long lasting one. The ones I have used in years past seem to dim considerably or just completely go out after about 4 or 5 hours. It's frustrating because, as it turns out, the batteries aren't even dead! They just , I don't know, overheat or something after being on so long. Grrr

I let mine burn untill around 1 AM. iHaunt, I also light mine around 5:30 PM

Jack where are you getting these? I've found ones that burn for 6 and they were quite expensive, but I've never seen any that burn 9?

My local supermarket. I live in England & buy them at ASDA Walmart (Walmart bought out ASDA 10 years ago, but also kept their name too). I bought a pack of 10 larger tealights for only Ã‚Â£2 & they burn for 9 hours!

I wonder what would happen if I painted the inside of my vampire jack red? Think that might give it the red glow I'm after?

Yeah I found some tealights that burn 9 hours. I love those.
I like the traditional candlelight.

Where did you buy them? I'm just thinking for Morticia, being that you're Stateside of "the pond." Although (ASDA) Walmart sell them over here like I said, so maybe the Walmart's over there will sell them?

The traditional candlelight is awesome though!

Nothing beats real candles, but when you have some acrylic pumpkins, you can't use the candles in those, of course.
