If I may misquote Lenny Bruce, "In America you can show a breast being cut off but you can't show it being kissed."
Speaks volumes about our culture.

I thought it was Marlon Brando who said that....

Then it's more mis than quote now, isn't it?
Either way, the point is valid.

In movies like "The Godfather" and others, the torture scenes were there to tell a story, and torture is and allways part of the Mafia and their ways of doing business. It's the same deal with serial killers. A movie about the BTK Killer or Ted Bundy would have to involve torture and have a gruesome aspect to it in order to be accurate. "The God Father" was a great story, and a very accurate docudrama about "La Cosa Nostra" and how the operate.
On the other hand, movies like "Saw" and "Hostel" have very little story line to them at all. As pointed out in one of the previous posts, the torture scenes were there just for pure shock value. The story actinc, direction and even the cinematography in those films were very poorly done, and those films creaped me out for all the wrong reasons. I found "Hostel," especialy to be more depressing then scary. A friend fo mine who enjoyed "Hostel" dragged me to see "Hostel 2," and that was even worse. At the end of that attrocity, you see a bunch of kids, liley orphans, using a woman's disembodied head as a soccer ball. I actualy got depressed at the thought of that, and I just don't get into those "toture/porn'" scenarios.

Amen again, brother.
There is so much atrocity going on in the real world that it confounds me as to why anyone needs to make and present the fake stuff.

Torture does happen in the real world, and if you are going to make a movie about the Mafia, or about the holocaust, or about PolPot's reign of terror, you can't avoid it. I just didn't like the way "Hostel" presented it. It reminded me of the Ancient Roman's arena where Christians were fed to lions while the spectators cheered.
In all honesty, I miss the classsics. I would like to see more classic horror movies made.

Torture thing isn't really my own faviorite, you know?
But I did enjoy some forcing <deleted> actions such as rape, you know, that's bad...
I did enjoy Roman history about Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Claudius and Nero.
