Nothing. I got up at 4:45 to get my son up and out for a 6 am job. Still trying to figure out if I want breakfast or bed more.

I'm eating excessive amounts of work at home these days  fortunately, I'm already smelling the rabbit cooking in the oven (it's dinner time here), it's not helping me concentrate, but at least I know I'll soon be free!

Right now I'm just drinking coffee, but last night I made an "Autumnal Torte Rustica" out of a 2009 Taste of Home Halloween cookbook. Someone at church gave me a boxful of butternut squash, so I've been rummaging through my cookbooks for recipes. This one is layered, butternut squash-ricotta & romano cheese-spinach & onions/repeat. Baked in puff pastry in a springform pan. Seasoned with sage, nutmeg, and garlic. It was way more involved than what I usually cook, but it was very good.

That sounds like a great Halloween treat.

It's in the fall fare section of the book, not really the Halloween section, which is more decorative. But it is very good. If I were to attend a pot luck Thanksgiving, I could bring it for that.

I have some of the Southern Living 'best of' annual recipe collections.

Tasty, tasty stuff.

Actually a lot of Halloween décor has more to do with Fall. Pumpkins, are very much part of a Thanksgiving dinner table. Almost as traditional as the turkey is pumpkin pie. The song "Over the River and Through the Woods" has the line 'hurrah for the pumpkin pie' at the end of the song.

Yes, that's why people who are uncomfortable with the spookiness/witchiness of Halloween celebrate fall festivals instead. There is considerable overlap.

Well I love all the Halloween spookiness and I plan to celebrate it with a vengeance this year, starting on the 30th of September by setting up decorations, and all through the entire month of October and through the 1st and 2nd of November. I am also going to do up 'Little Halloween' on Friday September 13th, and 'Creepmass a.k.a. Little Halloween' on Friday December 13th.
